This 5th year anniversary event ties in nicely with Vlisco’s own anniversary. On 15 August this year, Vlisco officially turned 170 years old. Because of its strong connection with Africa, the brand will mark the big event by honouring African women, as they’ve played an indispensable role in their success and who have always cherished and adored its fabrics. Vlisco honours their passion for authentic Wax Hollandais and as part of the celebration, Vlisco has asked 8 women from 6 different countries in Central and West Africa to be the faces of the 170 Years campaign. Including the world famous, Grammy winning African singer Angelique Kidjo.

“The positivity African women bring to society is incomparable. Their resilience, their elegance and their beauty are magnificent. They are the first to wake up and the last to go to bed. They are the backbone of Africa” – Angelique Kidjo

So it is surely fitting that two women in strategic roles within the Vlisco team will join the conference during this years’ fashion season. Their Creative Director and their Consumer Insights & Brand Innovation Manager will together deliver a presentation under the overall conference theme of The African Market and we cannot wait for it!

Fashion Africa Conferences are known to strategically bring together influential stakeholders and actors within the ethical fashion and African fashion arenas. Previous conference speakers have included international retailer H&M, Hollywood Actress Rosario Dawson and her business partner Abrima Erwiah, Cotton Made in Africa (OTTO Group), British Museum, Solidaridad, Textile Exchange, Mantisworld and much more! This annual event is recognised as being an industry catalyst changing perceptions of Africa’s fashion and textile industry and most importantly encouraging fashion business in Africa.

About Fashion Africa Conference

‘Fashion Africa’ Conference and Seminars were founded and created by Jacqueline Shaw, Director or Social Enterprise Africa Fashion Guide to be a catalyst in the industry. They were birthed as yearly events to help change perceptions of the fashion and textile industry in Africa and to ask those in Africa working in garment design and textile manufacturing what THEY think and need. They aim to keep these discussions ongoing in different locations annually where international industry leaders can connect, do business and initiate change.

The 2016 Fashion Africa Conference is a revolutionary vehicle creating social forum for attendees to talk openly and share ideas, information and expertise, to raise awareness and elevate the perception of design from the African continent.

This event is a must attend event where there will be a mix of press, brands and industry influencers and insiders with a mutual involvement and/or vested interest in elevating African trade, design and production, and who want to be part of the wider solution to raise Africa as a trailblazer in quality design and production.
