Ready to wear accessories label UGO has launched their debut collection of handbags. Aimed at the savvy fashionista who’s looking for a well-made statement piece the collection comprises of Clutch Purses, Totes, Duffle Bags (which are now sold out), Oversized Cargo bags and Rucksacks for both men and women; retail prices start from £30 to £150.

Ugonna Hosten designer and owner of the label is originally a Criminology graduate and began her retraining in fashion in 2009 at Central Saint Martins and built a portfolio at London College of Fashion.

“My exciting journey into fashion is a continuation of an interest I’ve had about the dynamics, nature, quirks and complexities of individuals and societies alike. Through the brand I hope to celebrate a people of beauty, strength, richness. We have all visited Africa through various mediums some of these visits have been very partial. I would like to invite ALL to accompany me on this journey to LOOK AGAIN and engage with Africa’s cities, arts and culture more deeply.”

When we first met Ugonna at an art exhibition we noticed the bags and the originality. They are made with traditional African fabrics but with a twist, think oilcloth; the oilcloth finish means that the bags are very durable, the colours never fade, and they are easy to look after. Made here in the UK by a small team of highly skilled specialists, the majority of the LIMITED EDITION collection is produced in small runs of two per bag per printway making them pretty exclusive.

Our range of bags are DESIGN-LED and thoughtfully made, with the practical needs of our clients in mind.We treat our fabrics to seal in those gorgeous colours in a high gloss finish making our bags waterproof,extremely durable and truly unique.

UGO being the very first of it’s kind to offer oilcloth bags using traditional African fabrics they are described by the team as an AFRO-POP fashion accessories label, presenting the customer with “exceedingly delicious arm candy“.
