The Inaugural South African Menswear Week A Great Success

South African Menswear Week is the first dedicated men’s fashion platform in Africa. Focussed solely on menswear designers and accessories, SAMW showcases the leading menswear designers twice annually. The first week is took place in Cape Town, South Africa. Menswear is the biggest growth area in fashion, and SAMW is perfectly situated to develop and grow the sector by providing a world-class platform for designers to develop their brands.

On the 5th to the 7th of February, Cape Town saw the inaugural of the South African Menswear Week off to an impressive start. Held in the V&A Waterfront Breakwater parking lot, over 25 designers showcased innovative collections, setting the stage for menswear in Africa.

According to, Nkosiyati Khumalo, Deputy Editor, GQ South Africa, ‘SAMW’s clever placement directly into the sequence of a growing number of international menswear weeks, firmly entrenched South Africa in a new menswear era, which will create a host of new business opportunities in developing markets globally.’

The South African Menswear Week has created a platform not only for the more established veteran designers, but also emerging designers in Africa. The stage has been set and now Africa can contribute to the fashion sector on a global sphere. June/July will see SAMW host over 20 designers showcasing the Spring/Summer (SS15) collections. The SAMW will only grow from this point onwards and menswear has finally received the recognition it deserved.
