FAB magazine stands for Fabulous, African, Black and is one of the fastest growing fashion magazines in Africa. Their latest issue is called the ‘Escapism Issue’ and they held their FAB Magazine UK launch party on the 7th August at the very swish venue – RS Lounge. The FAB event went on from 2pm till 11pm, with a FABulous cocktail event in the middle of the day, and a fashion show featuring various designers including our recently featured new designer Adjoa Osei and also, amongst other designers was Bestow Elan who features in the soon to launch glossy fashion book ‘Fashion Africa’ by myself AFG Founding Director Jacqueline Shaw.

The launch was hosted by StylishDay and I made my way down there to support what Team AFG believe is one of the fastest growing, exciting and fresh fashion and lifestyle magazines out there, which showcases African talent. It was a night for socialising, networking and fashion, of course 🙂 We spotted some of the more interesting African print outfits.

The fashion show kicked off and models came down the catwalk looking glamourous. I was looking out for Adjoa Osei’s collection which was beautiful close up. See for yourself below:

Designer Nicole De Noir came up with some space age-esque corestry – definitey one for the It girl – girl around town – one needs ‘attitude’ to rock these pieces! Aesthetic left to everyones choices but believe me they are made amazingly well. Well impressed.

After the show we were blessed to hear the story of FAB magazine from its own Editor in Chief Sinem Bilen-Onabanjo looking stunning in white and right on trend. She highlghted to us how FAB started in March 2010 launched in Nigeria and is now in 8 countries worldwide with the exclusive news that they are launching their Ipad App too! You better snap that one up readers!

The magazine was started as an idea to create a magazine for Africans by Africans. Sinem has a joke with us as she highlights what some people may be thinking ‘but you are not African’ BUT with all due respect and as she so rightly notes, she married in to the culture and now bares an African surname which as good as makes you African 🙂 So at FAB Magazine you will find a team of African creatives, writers and contributors who have all put together an amazing magazine with a strong African perspective, done with quality and executed in a professional manner.

Her hubby, Suby Onahanjo and the other half of this creative duo is the Creative Director of FAB magazine and has a strong sense of confidence with a demure touch in his appearance. I could not imagine him shouting or having the need to because he seems to know how to get things done with humility. His speech followed and had a few words of encouragement. His focus is to change the way Africans view Africa and to shake of the dirt that had been associated with all things African. From quoting Einstein to talking about his vision and the importance of having an idea he asks us what our idea is and left us to ponder on his words of wisdom.

After this I get the chance to do yet more networking and catch up with the lovely Ohemma of Shadders site, as well as Kwabena of Kayobi Clothing, Hair stylist Angela Plummer and the lovely Sinem too.

Amongst the picture taking I caught Erzumah of Bestow Elan and grabbed a sneaky shot. Obviously camera shy 🙂 but it was more lovely to see her in person as she will be showcased in my book  ‘Fashion Africa’ launching in Sept. Catch Erzumah also on facebook as she will be doing pattern cutting class course for beginners. After seeing her dresses you must admit she has skill.

Overall FAB magazine did a great job along with StylishDay and I think their readership and subscriber numbers must have blown up since. Do continue to read their mag and support the positive drive they are working to change and to build up the perception Africa. I, for sure, am sold.
