News Just In! Arise Magazine Fashion Week CANCELLED

As one of the hottest tickets in the African fashion calender we personally have been waiting and waiting to hear from the team at Arise regarding this years’ show. With rumours of dates and of the number of invited designers rumoured to be as much as 100 in number – talk has been going around but we wanted to just wait to hear more. Speaking with designers and team members working on Arise Magazine Fashion Week it definitely sounded like it was happening but we had yet to hear from the press team as the rumoured event date loomed. So it was with … some surprise that we heard that the show has been cancelled from a designer and then saw it for ourselves via the Haute Fashion Africa platform (always on top of things with the catwalk shows – thanks guys!).

Here’s the complete Press Release which was sent out from the AMFW team earlier today:

“The AMFW teams were in meetings all day yesterday regarding the show as so many designers are experiencing problems in regard to shipping, vaccinations, logistics, visas, getting the collections ready, etc. Arise proposed to bring 50 designers to Lagos, however, due to the tight deadlines most people are finding it very difficult to participate this year.

After much deliberation, the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week management regrets to announce that its proposed AMFW 2013 event, scheduled for March 28-1 April, has been postponed due to technical and logistical reasons. In its place we are announcing TWO shows; the first will take place during IMG Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week from 5-12th September 2013, showcasing Spring/Summer 2014 collections; and the second event will be the annual AMFW – Lagos 2014, to celebrate Nigeria’s 100th Anniversary.

We would like to thank you for your patience, time and interest in participating in the March event and we sincerely hope that you will wish to participate in one of our forthcoming televised events. The AMFW team is keen to work in collaboration with each brand to ensure a smooth process.

Should you have any further queries or questions, please feel free to contact us at: designers@ariselive.com.

Once again, our apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of our change of schedule, but we hope that you will be able to join us for the forthcoming events.”

WOW! What to say. Disappointing well definitely. It is a great platform that does bring to the light many of the large and smaller sized design companies so it is a shame but with the September show happening we look forward to seeing how that goes and for the anniversary next year we are sure it will be an exciting year and a hot ticket to obtain.

Until September….
