On Feb 28th, in conjunction with Fairtrade Fortnight (25th Feb – 10th March) , FAIR+true will launch its new Spring/ Summer collection, ethically made in Malawi by Mayamiko Trust.
Mayamiko Trust is a UK registered charity working to help people lift themselves out of poverty through trade and sustainable activities. They are currently working with disadvantaged women on the Mayamiko Cotton Project in Malawi. The project provides training in weaving, knitting, cutting, sewing, tailoring, all the way through the finished garments, some of which have been featured on Vogue, Grazia, Cosmopolitan and The Guardian.
The Mayamiko ladies project has been producing the garments for FAIR+true’s Spring/Summer collection which launches this Thursday.
Challenging what it means to be green the new collection reflects the versatility of ethical products as well as the strongest trends of the season.
Fresh palettes and clean lines make up this sophisticated collection of interchangeable separates that work across ages and occasions.
Cool ice-cream shades form the perfect base in soft sheers and silky sport inspired fabrics and shapes. In contrast popping candy colours add punch with spotted prints on 60’s style shapes.
The suit is adapted for a strong silhouette as a trim tux jacket worn with straight printed trouser, or as a more feminine statement with a crop printed jacket and floaty sheer maxi skirt.
Tribal and Aztec inspired prints are re-worked into geometric designs for a more modern take on a Summer staple. A ruffle neckline playsuit or short shorts gives an extra twist.
Both the African print and batik garments were ethically made by Mayamiko’s team of trainees and graduates in Malawi with locally sourced materials. The batik is made individually by hand by Mayamiko’s very own dyer.
The collection made by Mayamiko is designed by and exclusive to Fashion-conscience. It launches on Feb 28th from 10am-7pm at 28 Grove Vale, London, SE22 8EF.
