Tina Tangalakis is the founder of socially responsible Los Angeles-based label Della who makes various handcrafted products by artisans and producers in Ghana’s Volta Region. They are driven by the awareness of the need for a global market that provides socially-responsible, quality products. Proudly emphasizing that “We are not a charity; we are a business done and doing – “right.”
Presently employing over fifty Ghanaian women Della specifically works with in the developing villages of Ghana to create one-of-a-kind accessories from textiles that have come from sustainable local materials found within the West African region. What we love about this collaboration is that with every purchase a large portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to providing jobs, training, regular literacy classes, healthcare benefits, money management workshops, social security and much more.
We absolutely love what this company does and stands for and even more the collaborations they do too such as the 2013 collaboration with Urban Outfitters and being part of their Bazaaaar pop up shop too.
This amazing company was called upon to be part of the latest collaborative enterprise by Vans who joined hands with fashion brand Della to release a capsule collection consisting of footwear and matching accessories. The Della x Vans collaboration launches this January where they have utilised the one-of-a-kind batik process infamous in a country like Ghana to the Vans Sk8-Hi, Authentic and Era sneaker styles. The prints are original and one of a kind which are obviously inspired by West African landscape weather and culture.
From the comments on these pages they may not fit the ideals of the original sneaker collector because they are so different but for those of us fashion shoppers and consumers they are fresh and original with a great story behind them. We totally love them and think you will too.
The Della x Vans Capsule Collection will be for available at selected Vans accounts USA nationwide later this month. Check out all the styles below along with a link to the Vans website showing the video which showcases the collaboration by Della and Vans.
