This essential guide for Young African Diaspora Entrepreneurs who are interested in developing their own businesses, linking their UK connections and insights into the exciting opportunities across Africa. With a talk by Africa Fashion Guide’s very own Director Jacqueline Shaw. Its a must attend event.

The one day certificated course at SOAS, University of London, will include presentations and workshops from successful, expert and inspirational speakers to help maximise your potential and turn your business dreams into reality in 2013. Sources of funding, one page business planning- is it possible? Avoiding the bear traps, social enterprise – is it for me?

9.30       Arrival Coffee and Workshop Registration – arrive early to book the workshops you want and create your made-to-  measure day.

10.00      Welcome speech followed by two expert motivational speeches Perez Ochieng speaking on Seizing the Idea and Making it Happen and Jacqueline Shaw an eco-entrepreneur who will be sharing where she sees Tomorrow’s Opportunities for young Diaspora entrepreneurs exploiting their links with the UK and Africa. Followed by a brief presentation by Andy Potsides, Director of Marketing at School for Startups outlining what School for Startups is able to offer potential entrepreneurs including government backed loans, mentoring and coaching.

11.30      Coffee – start networking and make the most of this chance to make contacts in similar or connected fields (don’t forget to bring lots of business cards!).

12.00     Workshop 1
Small interactive groups where you can find out from the experts the ‘what, when, why and how’ of the subjects that are important to you. Topics include:

 Business Planning (Junior Ogunyemi);

 Utilising Social Media and working with online distribution Ebay V Amazon (Ben Oguntala – Developed Africa);

 Avoiding Business Disasters and other common mistakes (Perez Ochieng 
- SACOMA);

 Live UnLtd – Turning the Dream into Reality (Marie Lyse Numuhoza)

 Building a Market Research plan – who and what you need to know (Isebail MacKinnon AFFORD /REMADE )

12.45   Lunch

3.30    Panel Discussion: Ethical Business – covering Bribery and Corruption and Fairtrade. Speakers Mark Jones (HABA) and Steven Wilding (Ethical Corporation). What you need to know to keep out of jail and avoid negative publicity Chaired by Dr Seraphin Kamden from SOAS.

4.30    Closing Motivational Speech – Junior Ogunyemi
