Choolips celebrates its Golden Coast SS13 collection Diamond Petals

Choolips SS13 Diamond Petals collection

Choolips is a fresh youthful brand that is known for its production in Ghana West Africa. It is notable for how the designs redefine ancient textiles traditions introducing covetable luxuries of high quality craftsmanship back into fashion.

Their womenswear & accessories collections tell stories of exquisitely detailed beauty. The beauty of their collections lies in a seamless blend of cultures, traditional crafts and innovative techniques, furthering equitable trade with each print and stitch made. Choolips‘ aim is to harmonise the mindset of producers and consumers. We trade fairly, produce locally and have small water & carbon footprints.

Our ‘Golden Coast’ collection is colourful, bright and bold. Inspired by the soul of Ghana’s streets: its music and its people it is fairly traded and printed by local batikers. And their accessories are handfinished by seamstresses in Ghana and garments are tailored by our producer SOKO in Kenya.

For SS13 they introduce a new collection entitled Diamond Petals.

‘Diamond Petals’ is inspired by the rich traditions of the Surma tribe from Omo Valley, Ethiopia. Known for their exquisitely beautiful vegetal headresses made from exotic flowers and the use of their bold geometric body paintings their timeless creations have us slightly obsessed beyond the season.

Watercolour petals, bright diamonds and delicate animal prints are slathered with a fresh palette of white, mint, pink, bright yellow and highlights of charcoal onto playfully chic silhouettes with a casual sporty edge.

Choolips is New Heritage reputable for introducing the luxuries of high quality craftsmanship back into fashion, CHOOLIPS creates beautiful collections that are seamless blends of cultures with the backbone of sustainability. CHOOLIPS’ designs are filled with exquisite detailing telling stories of beauty and love. CHOOLIPS trades fairly, has small water and carbon footprins and aims to harmonise the mindset of producers and consumers.

Inspired by people, their lives and entrepreneurial small businesses in developing economies, Designer & Founder of CHOOLIPS, Annegret Affolderbach has a strong passion for textiles. This brought to her mind the idea to revamp traditional techniques such as batik & appliqué with the aim to revive these and to sustain the artisans and entrepreneurs behind them. These were to be produced applying fair trade principles & transparency, in the home country of those techniques in collaboration with a local skilled workforce.

Annegret has travelled extensively in Africa, India, the US and Europe building broad networks across fashion & the creative industries. She has written her own column {sustain} as ‘fashion- E-ditor’ for Sustainable Fashion @ B2B platform Tribaspace. {sustain} looked at the journey of Eco/Sustainable Fashion, the exciting & innovative businesses it unfolds and the potent future it presents for our global Fashion Industry. All this qualifying her for such a strong international brand that Choolips has now become.

‘Having seen Annegret in action over the last two years, she is a beacon of light within the fashion industry, at the forefront of looking at ways that she can build the capacity of small business co-operatives in Africa.’ Claire Hamer, Sustainability Strategist Asos.com, Greenroom

Their ‘Golden Coast’ collection is inspired by the soul of Ghana’s streets: its music and its people. Fairly traded, printed in Ghana by local batikers using 100% soft cotton and Azo & Formaldehyde free dyes, and tailored by our manufacturer SOKO in Kenya. The collection is colourful, bright and bold. Due to the nature of the hand printed Batik process there will be colour variation adding individuality to each garment.
