Its that time of year again, South Africa Fashion Week will be happening this week. With a presentation of The Business of Fashion Summer Collections on 29, 30, 31 March & 1 April 2012 at The Crowne Plaza, The Rosebank. SA Fashion Week will present designers on the catwalk. There will also be a Buyers Lounge from 2-3 April 2012 also at The Crowne Plaza, The Rosebank.
They describe their motive and driving force behind South African Fashion Week as being all about the ‘Business of Fashion’ and they recognise the positive impact that a flourishing fashion design industry can have not only on South Africa’s economy, but in the celebration of the diversity of an indigenous fashion identity. South Africa Fashion Week is an internationally recognised fashion institution. SSAFW has in the past eleven years been a major stimulator of the South African fashion industry. This platform continues to create awareness of, and a desire for local brands and they believe this will ultimately bridge the gap between South African retailers, clothing and textile manufacturers on the one hand and a community of fashion designers on the other, and as a result will forge a truly South African fashion culture.
Their commitment to expand institutional capacity is there to maximise the potential of South Africa’s local fashion design industry through:
• providing a marketing platform based on established international best practise;
• facilitating the transfer of industry experience, skills and know-how;
• enabling partnerships that will allow micro fashion designer businesses to leverage the export infrastructure of the larger textile and clothing manufacturers
• encouraging the raising of local design output to match international standards
Designers will include Black Coffee, Clive Rundle, Funduodzi by Craig Jacobs, Naked Ape, Stoned Cherrie, Suzann Heyns, Lunar and much more!
